Getting Back to a Healthy You Post-Baby

I received compensation from Bayer Consumer Health, makers of MiraLAX® to write this post. MiraLAX® is a laxative used to treat occasional constipation. All opinions are entirely my own. #EaseTheDay #CollectiveBias

Our family is so happy to have our little miss Tess here.  It was a rough road but we couldn’t imagine our lives any different.  Our family finally feels complete …. Only for now though. I’m not putting any definitives on our family size yet (;

I think I may be the most excited person in our family to have that sweet baby here.

One of the things that I would say isn’t much fun at this stage is my life is the occasional constipation. It’s one of those things people don’t tell you about. Luckily, I’ve discovered MiraLAX®. MiraLAX® works with your body’s natural process to provide effective relief from occasional constipation. Because it works with the water in your body, MiraLAX® provides a gentle experience, and doesn’t cause harsh side effects.  MiraLAX® is different from stimulant laxatives. Stimulant laxative pills make your body go by forcefully stimulating the nerves in your colon. MiraLAX® works with the water in your body to hydrate, soften, and ease, unblocking your system naturally.

No need to bite your lip. You can bring the MiraLAX® Mix-In Pax® with you.

Something else I love to do in the morning is getting ready (almost) every day. Some days you’ll want to walk around in pajamas (don’t knock it til you’ve tried it).  But a lot of the other days, I like to get dressed and put makeup on. It helps me feel a little more “normal” and a little more like the old me. Even if I have nobody to impress that day other than the wee ones who are unimpressed with my makeup choices anyway. I don’t care. I do it for me.  I do it to feel like a human.

I have a hard time getting back into a workout routine post-baby.  But squeezing in a 10-15 minute workout here and there gives me a great boost of energy. Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Even if I’m a tired mombie, I try to make time for some light physical activity.  Now that my baby is growing up a little, I’m ready to pump up the jam and try to get rid of those last 5 pounds. But up until this point, light exercise has been one of my best friends. Enough to relieve some of the guilt I’ve had about the number of cookies I’ve had.

One of my other musts for after baby is getting out on a date night. Quick.  While baby still sleeps 98% of the day. Take advantage of that time and spend some of it with your hubby.  It can be hard to think of anyone other than the one needing you for everything those first few weeks/months.  But you deserve to get out and celebrate yourselves as a couple. And a couple of awesome parents. You made a baby! Whoo! And you gotta start practicing to do it again … amiright? So date night. Date night like a boss and you’ll feel like you in no time.

I also like to clean.  I like feeling like I am in control of something after baby comes home.  I can’t control her or her sometimes crazy schedule (though I darn well try.  Sleep training is my jam.) So the OCD in me has to find other things to control to feel good.  Cleaning is one of the ways I do that. It’s one of the things that helps me feel accomplished about myself and my day.  As if creating life and sustaining it isn’t enough, right? I’m just a tad hard on myself at times. But I truly enjoy a clean environment. I do not thrive if my surroundings are chaotic.  So if you’re like me, grab some lysol wipes and go to town. And then wash your hands in time to change a diaper. A mom’s work is never done, right?

What are some things you do to help get yourself feeling back to “you” after baby?  What was the hardest part of getting back to normal?

Thanks for reading friends!

xoxo
