Pickle Festival

You’ve heard of Mt. Olive pickles right?  You probably craved them for 9 months of your life? .. Along with some good ole’ Ben and Jerry’s?  Well .. surprise! We live right near the famous Mount Olive and their pickles.  Pretty sure Peter Piper is my neighbor.  Wait …. he picked peppers huh?  Ugh.  ??

Mount Olive has their pickle festival every year in the summer so, living right next door to these crunchy dills, we had to take a trip down yonder and see what this festival was all about.

Yup. You guessed it.  It was all about Pickles. ….. And then there were none.  By the time we got there, all the big pickles were gone.  All I got were these whimpy little snack sized pathetic excuses for pickles.  I was slightly depressed.

But! They did have smoked turkey legs and that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside again.  I’m a sucker for fair food.  … Apparently so are my kids.  Blue cotton candy was their choice of souvenir.  They make me so proud.

Other than fair food – the girls got to ride ponies, visit the petting zoo, and, my all time favorite festival experience, use the port-o-potty.  Nora thought it necessary to check inside each and every one.  I assured her several times, “they all smell like that honey, just choose one.  No, they don’t flush.  Just breathe through your mouth be quick about it sweetie.”

After that we witnessed some pretty drunk individuals singing “low places” before they hit some pretty low places.  Small Town USA folks. It was epic.

One of my favorite memories growing up are the summer carnivals and fairs.  I absolutely loved getting dolled up and spending summer nights riding rides and avoiding carnies and their small hands.  I usually ended up riding rides with my girlfriends or my brother so … the nights never turned out the way I had planned.  Yet, still some of my fondest memories. I hope my girlies will have fond memories of family fair days!

Thanks for reading!  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
