I have been wickedly cursed in the oral hygiene department. I wore braces for 8 years. EIGHT YEARS GUYS! I had train track teeth for as long as I have now been married. I avoided popcorn, caramel, and corn on the cob for what felt like an eternity. After those 8 years of
hell oral discomfort and the nerdiest smile in the world, I received yet another curse. I was in need of the most expensive cocktail of dental work. No number of floss threaders could have saved me (or my mother’s wallet) from that nightmare.
Since then, I have experienced lots of cavities. While my perfect husband has had 1. ONE! I can’t even count how many times I have inhaled nitrous all for the sake of drilling and filling my teeth.
After each of my pregnancies, I have had (more than) a hand full of cavities and even a few root canals after each baby. I have the worst enamel … and maybe some bad hygiene practices too ….
Now that my girls are old enough to visit the dentist, I have realized that one of them may have inherited my crap enamel. Which means more money out of MY pocket! So I am starting now to instill A+ brushing habits in them! I know that they need my example to insure the rest of their lives be as painless as possible in the dental department.
One thing I have never been very good at is flossing. Like, the dance I do realllllly well. And my girls do it pretty darn good. But dental flossing … it’s not one of my favorite things. Thanks to PTSD from 8 years of threading those awful floss threaders and almost swallowing one. But brushing alone leaves plaque and food debris behind, which can lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and bad breath. Only 16% of Americans actually floss every day. .. I am one of the 84%.
Thanks to my new Waterpik® Sonic-Fusion® flossing toothbrush I have been a rockstar “flosser”. Sonic-Fusion has helped because it’s a two-for-one. In one device I can switch between brushing, flossing, or brushing & flossing together with the press of a button. The Sonic Fusion is The World’s First Flossing Toothbrush AND all you need is one device for a complete clean. As the sonic toothbrush head cleans tooth surfaces, the Water Flosser jet inside the brush head targets plaque and debris between teeth and below the gumline where toothbrush bristles can’t reach. This flexible device allows users to brush first, floss first, or brush and floss at the same time with the touch of a button.
It is so important to me to instill these healthy habits in my girls. We have implemented family brushing time and they’re loving those 2 minutes spent together brushing, while dancing to Justin Bieber. Who knew all I had to do was blast J-Beebs to get them to love brushing and flossing their teeth? If you’ve got a busy life but need to make sure you’re prioritizing your dental health, I definitely recommend the Waterpik® Sonic-Fusion® flossing toothbrush. It has made me feel like an A+ patient .. (okay, let’s be honest. I am more of a B+ dental patient. I still suck at the whole twice a day thing. Eye roll.)
