Skirts With Shirts

As a shopping addict, there is something I’ve noticed about where I spend my money.  After crunching the numbers and charting graphs and analytical pie charts, I found that the largest portion of my income was spent fueling my soda addiction .. i.e. Sonic, gas stations.  But that’s a topic for another time .. or another blog I need to devote entirely to Sodaholics Anonymous.  When it comes to things other than Dr. Pepper, I like to shop small.  I like to support the dream of a fellow Momma trying to make a little extra income (probably to fund her soda addiction.  Us soda addicts gotta stick together!) If I can help it, I would rather my money go to small businesses.  They tend to have better customer service and I love that you can connect on a more personal level.  Don’t get me wrong .. I still enjoy my weekly trips to Target.  As a Mom, Target trips are my right of passage and some days my Sanity depends on it.  So I will continue to take my Target trips (sans bathroom).  But when I am looking for the perfect baby gift, or dance outfit for my husband daughter, I will shop small and support the Mom and Pop shops who bring diversity to the community.

So, in honor of small shops everywhere – I am starting the Small Shop Series.  I will be highlighting a some of my favorite small shops over the next few months! I am excited to share them with you and help promote their products and initiatives.

First up is Skirts With Shirts.  A friend of mine and fellow Air Force wife, Katie, started this small business because she’s wicked good on a sewing machine.  She probably doesn’t even know what a seam ripper is.  I, on the other hand, am very very familiar with this tool and get even more use out of mine than I do my actual sewing machine.  What fun would a sewing project be if you didn’t have to completely unstitch and resew at least one part?  Well .. don’t ask me.  I wouldn’t know. When Katie and I got talking about collaborating, I sent her the measurements for my skirt and she literally delivered it to me the next day.  Less than 24 hours.  So speed is her game. And Katie’s her name.  And like I said, she’s really good.

I love her skirts and cannot wait to try some of her shirts! This skirt fits me perfectly and it is durable. I feel weird typing that in reference to a skirt.  Like it’s something that can withstand the force of a viking sword.  Might as well call it an industrial-strength celtic cloth. Sounds weird right?  But you know what I mean.  It’s not gonna rip the first time you do the bend and snap.  Or snag when you come into contact with some rotten velcro.  This isn’t your run-of-the-mill Forever 21 skirt.  This bad boy is gonna last you a couple babies.

This black and white stripe pencil is definitely a staple in every closet.  It’s timeless and can be paired with so many other pieces.  It can be dressed up or down! Wear it to the grand ball or to .. the gym.  And by gym I mean Chick-Fil-A .. where your waiter’s name is Jim.  This is the perfect chick-fil-a skirt.  Add a graphic tee and some converse and you’re ready for some chicken minis!

Love supporting small shops. I agree with you. You not only connect on a personal level, but you know where your money is going and you are often supporting a dream. I have found small businesses will go far more out of their way to make sure you are happy and they pay attention to small details. ?

Looking cute girl! That is a fantastic skirt. I went over to her page and I looove the dusty aqua floral skirt and the anchor shirt. Oh and for sure us pop-aholics (my geographical background says I don’t drink soda haha) must stick together. ?

Her stuff is so cute! I think there are lots of ladies around here that would like the anchor shirt!! By the way, I have stopped at sonic like 6 times since we spoke and STILL haven’t got the survey receipt!!

      1. Apparently sonic knows their most loyal customer when I come rolling through. I can’t believe you haven’t got a free one yet. Seriously I get like 2 a week. I also have an addiction so maybe I should stop bragging about my pop problems. ?
